In line with the consideration of the Senate Committee report on Local and Foreign Debts and approval of the  $22 billion external loan requested by President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday on the floor of the Senate, I lamented over the infrastructural decadence ravaging the South East Zone.

The second Niger Bridge is a major gateway shared between the Eastern and Western parts of Nigeria. In view of this fact, I highlighted the economic and social importance of the second Niger bridge, as well as interlinking railway projects stressing that projects of such magnitude deserve urgent attention and funding from this loan.

It is my earnest belief that the completion of the bridge would decongest the first Niger bridge and also have significant political and economic impacts; helping to boost economic activities in Anambra, Delta and the entire South-East states extensively as well as enable the eastern region have a better sense of belonging in the federation.

Conclusively, I am confident that this new funding will bring life and quicker activities that will in turn, facilitate speedy work on the second Niger Bridge and other critical infrastructure in the Southeast region.

Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Ubah.
Anambra South Senatorial District.
