Oyo State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), has warned Seyi Makinde, against his political role with the pandemic Corona virus  in the state, at the expense of the lives and property of the Oyo residents.

The party declared this via Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde its Publicity Secretary, on Saturday in Ibadan the State Capital.

APC’s against the governor’s decision in rejection of the 1,800 bags of rice contributed to the state by the Federal Government as part of the COVID-19 support to the state. NAN reports

NAN remembered that the Federal Government had, via the Nigeria Custom Service (NCS), donated 6,000 bags of rice to four states in the South-West, out of which Oyo got 1,800.

The Oyo state government however, declined the bags of rice, stated that the rice is harmful and therefore, not good for human consumption.

The Oyo state chapter of APC, replied, said that the declined of the Federal Government’s supports by Oyo state government did not hit them unaware, as Oyo state was not the only state to receive the palliative.

“It is very thoughtful of the Federal Government to have given the rice palliative to four states namely: Ekiti, Ondo, Osun and Oyo states same day.

“To God be the glory; none of the other three states that collected the rice consignment the same day had made similar complaint. We know that the rejection of the rice by Oyo government has political colouration.

“We challenge media men to make an enquiry from other states to confirm the grave allegation from the Oyo State government,” it said.

The party alleged that Makinde had yet to distribute palliatives to the vulnerable in the state since the outbursts of the pandemic virus, appealed him to it now and also purify all public places.

It further alleged that the governor had been playing political games with the pandemic virus  in the state.

The party said it had advised Makinde several times since the outburst of the virus but all to no avail, because the advice was coming from the opposition.

“Our first press release on COVID-19 was to advise the Oyo State government to avail itself of the use of African Genomic Laboratory at Ede in Osun, but it did the contrary, because the advice came from APC.

"After a lot of dilly-dallying, they decided to shift quietly to Ede as earlier advised, but we kept quiet since we are only concerned about the wellbeing of people of Oyo State,” it said.

The APC also said that it had also counsel the state government to implement a total shutdown and seek contributions from individuals and corporate organizations as supports for the vulnerable in the state.

“Also, because the idea of a total lockdown came from APC, the state government chose an ineffective curfew of 7 pm. to 6 am., which has been criticised by all reasonable stakeholders,” the party said.
