The Abia State has placed a total restriction on religious gatherings as Government informed Muslim community in the state to celebrate this year’s Eid el-Fitri at their respective homes.

This come as a shutdown ordered by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led government as part of preventive measures to curtail the outburst of the pandemic corona virus in the state.

Remember that the federal government had pronounced Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th, 2020 as general holidays to felicitates Eid-el-Kabir

This was declared by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola the Minister of Interior on behalf of the FG on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Abia Government, in a release issued by the State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu and disclose this to newsmen, in Umuahia on Friday, also explained that the decision of restriction on gathering especially in the upcoming  Eid-el-Kabir, was reached following consultations with the Muslim community in Abia State.

This is the statement: “An agreement has been reached between the state inter-ministerial committee on COVID-19 represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr Chris Ezem and the Muslim community-led by the Chief Imam of Abia State, Sheik Ali Ukiwe, and we informed all Muslims in the state that Eid Fitr for this year 2020 will be celebrated at home as there shall be no gathering at the Eid prayer ground.”

The Government, however, felicitate with the Muslim ummah in Abia State for a successful Ramadan season and appealed them to avoid the associated visit to relatives and neighbors while taking necessary measures to protect themselves and families in view of the global pandemic.
