The Ministry of Education in Lagos state has confirmed school Almanac for 2020/2021 academic session.

The Head of Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) Olaniran Emmanuel, released the details in a statement at the weekend.

Public and private schools below tertiary level will reopen First Term academic calender on Monday, 21st September, 2020 while the session runs through Friday 18th December, 2020.

The Second session begin on Monday 4th January, 2020 and runs through Friday 6th April, 2021 while pupil will resume for Third Term on Tuesday 4th May, 2021 and close on Friday 6th August, 2021.

Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, who is the Director-General, OEQA, appealed school administrator to have a distinct health and safety measure that will assist in  protecting the pupils, teachers and workers.

Abiola stated that it is not enough to resume but to keep staying opened since some schools all over the world had to lockdown after resumption due to a outbreak of the deadly virus.

“All schools must make efforts to comply with these requirements, not just for the improvement of the overall school operations but for safe reopening for academic activities to support the Lagos State Government quest for a full return.”

The official counsel schools to have a simple teaching and learning method where students and teachers who are not fit can be able to teach or learn from home through  online platforms.

Abiola reminded schools that they must take necessary measurs to avoid pandemic COVID-19 infections.

All Teachers, students and visitors are expected to take necessary measures to avoid been infected by the virus expecually by wearing face mask at all time, observing physical distancing, washing of hands at intervals and maintain high standard of personal hygiene.

Lagos State government stressed that schools must have an isolation center to care for medical emergencies in case anyone come up with symptoms such as cough, headache, catarrh, difficulty in breathing, sneezing and fever and so on and so forth.
