The Obafemi Awolowo University of Ile-Ife, OAU, has denied the reported claimed of its reopening gone viral on the internet.

A circular reportedly signed by the Registrar of the University, which has gone viral on social media, dusclosed that the University management board has directed students to resume.

Abiodun Olarewaju, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, revelead in a statement on Tuesday, labeled the circular as false malicious both in content and context and it should be discarded totally.

Aboidun disclosed that the Institution Management board “wishes to officially inform our students at all levels, their parents and guardians, that the said circular is fake and malicious both in content and context and it should be disregarded in its entirety.”

Meanwhile the Federal Government ordered the shutdown of tertiary institutions in the country due to the outburst of COVID-19 in March.

The OAU, which is a Federal Government-owned institution, had been on holiday before the directives which has not been changed.

Abiodun appealed the students of the University to be at peace, and waiting for valid information from the institution Management board as soon as the Federal Government lift ban on the tertiary institutions.

He said further, “We appreciate the patience of our students and we advise them to always remain safe."
