Valentine Ozigbo, the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, on Friday, October 9, 2020 condoled with the family of the late Professor James Nwoye Adichie who died at the age of 88.

A celebrated academician, Professor Adichie was Nigeria’s first professor of Statistics and he is the father to globally acclaimed award-winning writer, Chimamanda Adichie. 

While, speaking to journalists after the burial mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Abba, Mr. Ozigbo eulogized the late Professor, describing him as  “a legend, who he grew up admiring.”

“If you consider what Chimamanda has become in this world, you can’t but pay homage. As he has passed on, his legacy will continue to live on for generations," the respected business leader and philanthropist said.

“I want to use this opportunity to pray for his soul to continue to rest in peace," Ozigbo added.

"I also wish that his legacy continues to live on. His death is also a reminder that one day we will all die, so we should live a life worthy of emulation so one day, we will be celebrated like Professor Adichie."

Ozigbo consoled the bereaved family and encouraged them to take solace in the fact that their father left a solid legacy which he urged them to carry on.  

The funeral ceremony was attended by several notable personalities including a former Governor of Anambra State and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 general election, Peter Obi; the Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Charles Esimone; the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria (UNN), Professor Charles Igwe Arizechukwu; former Vice Chancellor of UNN, Professor Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba, among others.
