• 15 teams from Kwara, Oyo, Ogun participated
• HHL GMD decorates winners, says Coach Soba contributing immensely to sports devt in Nigeria

The duo of Engr. Rotimi Iliyasu Spikers and Engr. Musa Nimrod Spikers have outshone 13 other volleyball teams to respectively emerge winners of the female and male categories of the 9th edition of Offa Open Volleyball Championship.

The competition, which was organised by Coach S.O.B. Ajeigbe (Soba), was keenly contested by a number of 15 teams drawn from Kwara, Oyo and Ogun States.

The Volleyball Championship commenced Friday, December 18 through to Sunday, December 20, with 8 teams for the female category and 7 teams for the male category.

The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Harmony Holdings Limited, Mallam Abdullahi Abdulmajeed was among the dignitaries that graced the grand finale and award presentation for the event held at Offa Grammar School (OGS).

Other important personalities that were present include: Chief Bashorun Oladimeji Bankole, Chairman, Kwara State Volleyball Association; Engr. Gbenga Adesoye; Engr. Abdullateef Orisunbare; representatives of the Nigeria National Volleyball Referees under the chairmanship of Prof. A.A. Sanusi.

Abdulmajeed, who was Special Guest of Honor, decorated the winners from both the male and female categories with gold medals while simultaneously presenting them with championship cups.

He applauded the champions and charged them to keep the ball rolling for more wins.

In his brief presentation, the Harmony Holdings boss who is also a sports enthusiast lauded the efforts of the organiser, Coach Soba who he said is contributing immensely to the development of sports in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.

“Sport forms a very key aspect of human existence. All responsible governments invest hugely in it. It does not only serve the purpose of relaxation and entertainment, but also has the potentials to contribute to the revenue base of government. This is why I want to congratulate Kwara State for having a sports loving Governor in Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq who has contributed significantly in the development of sports in the state. I also commend Coach Soba for what he's doing with regard to sport. He has contributed immensely to the growth of sport in Kwara State and Nigeria,” Abdulmajeed noted.
