The Federal Government disclosed that COVID-19 vaccine is likely to be available from late March or April 2021.

Osagie Ehanire, who is the Minister of Health, revealed this on Monday at the Presidential Task Force (PTF) conference in Abuja.

Osagie stated that the quantity requested from AVATT of the Africa Union Commission will base on the country’s strength to distribute them to avoid wastage.

The health minister also revealed that Nigeria is seeking all alternatives to guarantee the vaccination of 70 percent of Nigerians by 2023.

He said, “We are negotiating with many parties and planning for flawless execution using recent experience from polio eradication in the face of a global scramble for vaccines.”

Osagie also added that aside from the 100,000 doses set aside as the first wave to Nigeria by the COVAX facility, the government also ordered for 10 million doses via the AVATT.

“Nigeria has an indigenous vaccine candidate which will require considerable investment to get through trials. We shall seek sponsorship to take the initiative further”, Ehanire added.
