A member representing Ekiti Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Abolarin Ganiyu Gabriel, has urged public office holders to use their positions to advance the course of the people. He also challenged them to initiate empowerment programmes for the people to cushion the effects of poverty and unemployment arising from economic hardship. Gabriel stated this on the sidelines of the empowerment scheme of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Raphael Olanrewaju Adetiba, held in Iloffa for the people of Oke-Ero Constituency. He said the present economic reality made it expedient for those entrusted with public offices to show compassion and assist people to minimize poverty and joblessness among the youth. Gabriel, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Works and Energy, commended the Deputy Speaker for empowering his people, describing the event as historic in Oke-Ero local government area. He also urged other lawmakers in the state House of Assembly to emulate Hon Adetiba so as to further bring smile to the people of their constituencies. The lawmaker said he had initiated several empowerment programmes for his constituents since his assumption of office and pledged to do more. Gabriel said, "The empowerment programme of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly is historical in the life of our people. You know Oke-Ero and Ekiti Local Government Areas are like brother and sister. Since I joined politics, I have never witnessed such a thing like this that the Deputy Speaker had done in Oke-Ero local government. "So, for a member representing Oke-Ero Constituency in person of Deputy Speaker to have empowered people from each ward in his constituency, I'm really impressed, sincerely speaking. I pray to Almighty God to continue to be with him "For other members in the Kwara State House of Assembly, we have to emulate this. It is something that is worthy of emulating. It is a thing of joy and I congratulate Hon. Raphael Adetiba for this".
